Call for Youth to participate in National workshop on Culture and Heritage

The Kenya National Commission for UNESCO (KNATCOM) is pleased to announce the call for expression of interest to participate in the 1st National Heritage Workshop for youth on culture and heritage. The workshop will take place on 26th – 29th March 2018 in Nairobi.

Featuring leading experts from Kenya on the 1972 UNESCO Convention on the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage and the 2003 UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, the workshop will equip youth participants from across the country with a deeper understanding of both Conventions in terms of not only practical implementation but also the role of the youth in the preservation and safeguarding of culture and heritage. The workshop includes interactive lectures, group discussion, role plays and real world simulation exercises.

The workshop is targeted at youth participants who are involved in safeguarding and conservation of Culture and Heritage; decision makers and County Government officers; and youth representatives of academic institutions, think-tanks and civil society.

The general objective of the workshop is to create and raise awareness among the youth in Kenya on matters of culture and heritage with a view to enlist youth support to actively participate and get involved in the promotion, conservation and safeguarding of culture and heritage.

Considering that the number of participants is limited, those wishing to apply should do so as soon as possible, and no later than 2nd of March 2018.
